Baltimore-Annapolis-Washington Century

The Official BAW100 Web page is here. The ride took place on Sunday, 25 August 1996.

The start/finish was just East of the Air and Space Museum downtown. There were 25 and 50 miles rides, but of course I did the 100 mile ride (which was 105.5 miles by their cue sheet). No one I talked to got through the course without missing a turn somewhere, so most of us also had a couple of extra miles (somehow nobody found a shortcut either). Since I decided to ride into town rather than drive, I had even more extra miles. My odometer counted 126.6 miles for the day

The route followed back streets North and East of the Capitol. It followed the Northwest and Northeast Branch trails and the Paint Branch and Indian Creek trails through College Park and Greenbelt Maryland (crossing the Beltway on Cherrywood Lane).

Our "Baltimore" waypoint was West Nursery Road and Hammond's Ferry Road, still outside the Baltimore Beltway. At least we went around BWI Airport.

From to Annapolis we took the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail most of the way. It parallels Maryland Route 2.

Back to Washington via Rutland Road, Governor Bridge Road, Lottsford Road and Ardwick Ardmore Road. We entered town again more from the North, passing New Carrolton Metro Station before joining the trails and heading South.

Quite the ride!
